John Cameron was born on 13 May 1812 in Abernethy, Inverness-shire.The Kirkmichael parish register states "John Cameron, servant, Croughly and Margaret Fraser, Tomintoul both parties in this parish were married on 9th November 1843"
In the Parish Register it also states "Children of John Cameron, Tomintoul and Margaret Fraser his spouse -

In 1851 the family was living in the Main Street, Tomintoul. John was shown as a 'carrier from Tomintoul to Aberdeen'and his age shown as 37.
Sometime between 1853 and 1855 they moved to Grantown on Spey were they spent the rest of their days. They had four further children in Grantown as follows:
